Puarenga learning center speech finalest.

On 18/08/13 our learning centre classroom finalists entered into the learning center to present to 100+ people. All finalist are: Year 8: Finn, Anais M, Sarah, Hayden and Maria YR 7: Rayan Eden, Cassidy and Amber. They all looking nervous and confident at the same time. 2 people were away so because of that we had to do the year 8 speeches on the 3/09/13. it had to be over 3 Min's. They all presented well with good eye contact lots of laughs and speaking clearly. On the 3/09/13 the year 8's had to do there speech again! Most of them didn't have to use cue cards some did. It was very hard to stay still for the whole time but we managed to get through it. Then the judges went away and we decided to do promp speeches. Basically a student will be given a random topic and they have to talk about it for 1 min. Finlay the judges came back out and the results were given.
The year 8's were: Finn and anais M. The year 7's were: Rayan and amber

The best VS the best.

On the 2/09/13 Devon arrived to battle us for the trophy. We have hold ed it since 2008. The next day 3/09/13 the Battle begins. Devon VS Mokoia both intermediate middle schools take on each other. Basketball and 3 net ball teams are up first. Unfortunately for Devon, they lost both. Netball year 8 B team scored 28-12 and the Year 8 A netball team scored 39-8. Then finally the Year 7 A scored  The basketball mixed team scored 68-2. Next comes soccer. Boys team looking bad at start as Devon score 1 goal in the 1st half. Mokoia . Amazingly the Mokoia score 2 goals in the 2nd half. Mokoia wins at 2-1. Girls soccer wins too. Score: 1-0. It comes down to rugby. A intense battle between the best of the best as players work hard to score trys. Running back and forth and side to side tackeling and passing. Unfortunately Mokoia looses the rugby. 6-1. Score: 68-23. All coming to the hall. Mokoia wins the trophy for the 5th year in a row! The trophys name is the Richard Thomson! Devon goes home on the 4/09/13 with a farewell from us.

Storm Breaker Book VS Movie



Storm breaker Movie VS Book
Storm breaker beginning of book.
The book starts of as Alex Rider in his bed when he is awakening by a doorbell and at the door there is the Police at 3:00 A.M. He is notified that his uncle Ian Rider has been killed in a car accident. They said that he was not wearing a seatbelt. But that’s not the truth….

Storm breaker begging of movie.
The movie starts off with Alex Rider at his school. His teacher suddenly calls him up to talk to the class about his family. Alex says that he hardly knew his parents because they died when he was very young. He only has his Uncle Ian Rider and his Housekeeper Jack. When Alex is telling the class about his uncle there is a little miniclip of Ian Rider in action. Alex has no idea about his uncle being a spy. Then his uncle is assassinated.

After being recruited in MI6 and his training, he is sent to port talon to do what he was asked to do. The storm breaker is working as it should be. But later on Alex has been captured and Herod Sayle tells him what he is planning. He is planning to send a virus into the air and kill not only hundreds or thousands but millions of people.

Alex is at Port Talon and is trying the storm breaker and gets a big fright when a dinosaur roars at him. Of course its 3D. He leaves it and goes wondering off looking everywhere then gets caught. He escapes and enters a lab. He finds out that they are making a virus which will be put into the storm breaker computers. He gets caught once again.

Alex Rider reaches the science museum where the prime minster is going to press the activation button which releases the virus though he doesn’t knows that.  Alex see’s wolf and asks for his gun. He open fires on the activation being careful trying not to hit the prime minster. He success. As he is coming home he spots a tower which appears to be the backup tower. If there was a faulty Herod Sayle would head there and activate the storm breakers containing the virus himself. Alex gets out of the car catches a horse with his friend on and rides to it. He passes a bunch of police/guards on horses. A chase forms. He reaches the tower goes up the elevator and unplugs them. But the thing is he trips and hangs for his life on the end of the plug. As Herod Sayle is about to kill him Yasson comes along in his helicopter. He is hanging upside down and points his to guns and fires. Herod sayle laugh’s thinking that Alex is dead but Yasson actually shot Herod Sayle. He gives Alex a hand. He tells him to go back to school and should not see him again.

Alex is leaveing the HQ when he calls for a Taxi. He is about tog et him when he relizes that Herod sayle is driving the taxi holding a gun. He is told to get in and leads him to a building and reaches to the top of a heli pad. Herod sayle says this is where he dies because he ruined the storm breakers evil plan. As he is about to kill alex, Yasson appers in a heli holding a machine gun. Herod tells Yassen that he can kill alex. Yassen fires. Alex looks down expecting to see blood and feel pain, but no. Alex turns to Herod and see’s him smileing and staying still then falls back to death. Yassen shot Herod. Herods helicopter lands alex thinking to kill him too. Yassen tells alex why he killed Herod and not him. Alex replies by saying he killed his uncle and he threats to kill him. But yassen just says he should just go back to school.

Minecraft report.

Minecraft report
Hi, im going to make a report about Minecraft is all the things you can do and why it should be used and schools and why it shoudlent.

Minecraft was created by a person called Markus Persson. Minecraft is all about survival and creative. Minecraft does cost but there are free trials edition on Minecraft. You can craft your armor and weapons. Also you can make more building blocks and stuff.

Controlls.
In Minecraft there are a lot of controls you need to know. Here are a few:
Move: WASD
Jump: Space bar
Fly (Only in creative mode): Double space
Fly up: Hold space
Fly down: Shift (Left)
Crouch (Only when not flying) Left shift
Talk: T then type
Command / then type for example (/kill) That will kill yourself
You can change the setting in optains.

Minecraft is a good program to use at school where kids can work together to create a town, or a building. Basicly anything they want! They can also learn scaleing in Minecraft. But bad points about Minecraft is that when their working, some people can “Sneack on Minecraft”. Or use fake names to prevent them from trouble of greiffing which bring me to my next point. Grieffing is something that lots of people don’t like to happen in Minecraft. Grieffing is when some destroys other peoples creations. They use TNT, Water, Lava, Fire charger’s, flint and steal, or just place blocks inside their hosues. I believe that there is no point but to annoy or make people angry when they are being griffed.



Minecraft has 4 optains.
1: Survival
2: Creative
3: Hardcore
4: Adventra

Survival:
Survival is when you must find your own stuff and craft your own weapons and stuff. You have hearts and hunger. When you hunger bar is out you will loose health. At night you better hope you have a shelter because theses things called Mobs come out and try to kill you.
There are:
Creepers
Skeletons
Spiders
Zombies
Slime and loads more!

Creative:
Creative mode is when you get unlimited bricks and tools and weapons and armor. Your weapons will never break unlike the others. You get no hunger bar and unlimited health. Unless you kill yourself by admin commands or falling out of the world.

Hardcore:
Like survival but only 1 heart. Your gamemode is hard and cannot be changed.

Adventra:
Like survival but canot break/blow up blocks even mobs cant.

In conclusion I think Minecraft should be something to use for school.

Good intructions.

Latley in P.4 we have been learning about presedual writeing. Presedual writing is about instructions, recipes and method's. Here is a few exsamples on what makes good instrucions.

-1 Step by step: Means that it explained 1 step at a time.


-2 Deatil: Like step by step but explained which way for example: Walk. Thats not detail but this is how it should the example should of been said: Walk foward 10 metters or Walk to the end of the room or Take 1 large step.

-3 Descriptive: Means how much to turn or walk for EG: Turn 90 degreed and walk 10 meters.

-4 Appropriate verbs: Means what to do for EG: Walk,run or jump

-5 Descriptive words: Means to take little or big steps for EG: Take 1 large step and turn a little to the right.
